Achieving In-Store Collection and PB Integration
Retail-Based Closed-Loop Recycling Model
Through in-store collection and collaboration with retailers, a scheme has been established that enables used PET bottles to be recycled back into private brand (PB) soft drink bottles.
Combined with growing consumer awareness of environmental issues, this initiative has successfully created a clear and tangible closed-loop system.
Thanks to a rigorous management framework, this model has gained attention across the industry and continues to expand steadily.
-
Goals & Challenges
-
Lot management was required, so a different system from the usual production plan was needed.
-
Solution
-
Built a full traceability system from raw materials to finished products using a proprietary barcode and management framework.
-
Results & Impact
-
An industry-first, fully closed-loop business model was successfully established, attracting attention not only in Japan but around the world and earning recognition as a pioneering, scalable approach.
Realizing Local Resource Circulation
Collaborative Agreement for "Bottle to Bottle” Recycling
Municipalities, beverage manufacturers, filling companies, and Recycled PET manufacturers have entered into an agreement under a shared goal of promoting Bottle to Bottle recycling.
In conventional recycling schemes, used PET bottles often end up being repurposed for non-Bottle to Bottle applications. However, by establishing a dedicated framework, this initiative enables resource circulation within a defined area, ultimately allowing recycled materials to be transformed back into final products—namely, PET bottles for soft drinks.
This model represents a significant step toward a localized circular economy, and has drawn attention within the industry for its effectiveness and scalability.
-
Goals & Challenges
-
Municipalities sought horizontal recycling of local resources, while beverage manufacturers required cost-linked operations.
-
Solution
-
We built a customized management system tailored to the specific needs of municipalities and beverage manufacturers.
-
Results & Impact
-
The initiative enabled local resource circulation, established a distinctive recycling scheme, and contributed to stabilizing recycled material prices.
Expanding into Food Applications
Adoption of recycled PET in Major Fast-Food Molded Containers
Recycled PET has been adopted for certain molded containers used by a major fast-food chain, having successfully cleared challenges related to food safety and appearance.
As a result, the containers are now being rolled out across stores nationwide in Japan.
While the use of recycled materials is becoming standard in the fast-food industry, this initiative marks a further advancement, with strong potential for continued expansion in the future.
-
Goals & Challenges
-
Clear global quality requirements and audits, and build a long-term stable supply chain.
-
Solution
-
Worked with FENC headquarters to understand global customer needs, propose solutions, and build supply chains in Japan and overseas.
-
Results & Impact
-
Realized a global project once thought difficult to implement in Japan, paving the way for future overseas expansion.
